How we work
Updated
Our method in plain words: what we check, what we never claim and where our facts come from.
We do not test products
We do not have a lab and we do not claim to have used the products we mention. Instead we read and compare what is published: manufacturer specifications and manuals, compatibility lists (Matter, Works with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home), safety standards and guidance from public bodies.
We do not rank brands
Our pages explain which features matter for which situation: a renter needs no-drill mounting, a home with pets needs a camera with good night vision and a robot vacuum with a tangle-resistant brush. When we link to Amazon, the link opens a search for those features, so you compare current models yourself.
Prices are ranges
Prices change daily. We give typical ranges, rounded, observed for the type of product at the date shown on each page. Always check the price on the retailer's page.
Facts come with sources
Safety, energy, privacy and legal points are sourced from official or primary sources such as ENERGY STAR, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Communications Commission, NIST, the Connectivity Standards Alliance (Matter) and manufacturers' own documentation. Sources are listed at the bottom of each page.
Safety first
Anything involving mains wiring, gas, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms or structural work is flagged. When a job needs a licensed electrician or follows local code, we say so.
