Smart bedroom

Updated

Wake-up lighting, blackout shades on a schedule, quiet climate control and night lighting that does not blind you: practical bedroom automations.

A smart bedroom should be quieter and darker, not busier. The upgrades that matter are schedules: shades that close at sunset and open gradually, lights that warm up in the evening and brighten slowly in the morning, and a thermostat or fan that changes setting while you sleep.

Keep cameras and always-listening devices out of the bedroom unless you have a clear reason, and favor devices with physical buttons so nobody has to look for a phone at 3 a.m.
